The forerunner of the WBA was "The International Alliance for the Promotion of Male Heterosexual Male Femmiphilia"
Obviously, this name was way too long.
It was shortened to "The International Alliance of Male Feminism" and eventually to "The International Alliance" (IA).
The organization was founded by Linda Ann Stephens.
The first meeting was held on November 22,1975, at the Beltway Motel at Washington Boulevard and I-695 just southwest of Baltimore, MD.
According to Pamela Jones/Rhonda Jones, a former member of the IA, Linda Ann "... was the one with drive and the energy to provide that missing sense of purpose.;
In fact, she had aspirations that soon became national in scope."
Pamela has been in touch with us; She has a wonderful
home page that is linked here and on the "Links" page.
Some time prior to November 1977 the IA moved to a church near Washington DC.
At this time the group had about 20 members in attendance.
Among the early members were Carol Becroft, Betty Ann Lind,
Ariadne Kane, Lisa Rouse, and Karen LaBrecht.
In 1978, Glenda Rene Jones and her significant other Linda P. Robins headed the IA after Linda Ann's departure.;
Sometime in the late seventies, Glenda moved to Allentown PA and published the IA newsletter.
Merle Sparkman then took over leadership to the Baltimore-Washington IA Chapter.
In 1980, Lisa Rouse became president of IA and served for three years.
In 1983, Evelyn and her significant other Wendy took on the IA presidential duties.;
They left the group in 1985.
In 1985 the group was lead by Roberta Lewis.
Roberta was the founder of "Ziegfield Night" a talent show that got all the girls involved in being on stage.
Roberta's tenure lasted 11 years.
In 1986, at the urging of Betty Ann Lind, who was president of the Delta Chi Education Association (a Virginia based group) the BWA came under the "Gateway Gender Alliance" (GGA) and was renamed the Baltimore-Washington GGA.
After the GGA folded in 1987, the organization was renamed the "The Washington Baltimore Alliance" since the meetings were closer to Washington.
The "Alliance" was added to the name due to the link with the "International Alliance".
The former president, Helen G., joined the group in 1988 and showed so much enthusiasm that she became vice president that same year.
She became president in 1996. In the Fall of 2002 Helen passed away.
In April of 1997, the meetings were moved out of the church (except for large meetings such as "Ziegfield Night" and the spring "Cook Out") and back into a hotel.
In 1997 the WBA started an affiliation with "True Spirit" an organization of F2Ms (TS and CD) and has helped host the last two national meetings.
Carole became the President in the Fall of 1998, Charlene Vice President / Webmistress (the first), and Georgia Ann the Treasurer.
In Fall 2004, Jenny North moved up from Secretary and became President. Jenna Evans stepped up to the plate to become the Vice President, and Julie C became Treasurer.
In the Spring of 2005 new WBA elections retained most of the previous board members with the following changes: Jenna Evans had moved away and the office of VP was vacated with the former WBA VP Charlene returning as Information/Membership Mistress. Sara became the new WBA webmistress.
For the 2005-2006 The WBA has moved to an elegant and much more private meeting facility conveniently located midway between the Washington and Baltimore areas. Additional changes include Charlene rising to the leadership of WBA.
As of March of 2007 the WBA has no meetings scheduled and does not plan to meet formally again at this time.
