Overview of the St. Louis Gender Foundation

St. Louis Gender Foundation

Who are we?

The Saint Louis Gender Foundation (StLGF) is a resource group of, by, and for crossdressers, transgenderists, transsexuals, androgynous individuals, and those who care about them. The organization reaches out to all "gender questioning" adults and significant others regardless of race, religion, biological sex, marital status, or sexual orientation. By providing a nurturing atmosphere, we encourage personal growth and, self-acceptance, and provide opportunities for making new friends.

".. StLGF has given me a place to grow, learn, and play. lt's allowed me to make friends who know the real me..."

The StLGF was formed in October 1984 as a social club. Today it continues to focus on the development of individual members while also pursuing specific goals within the gender community as well as outreach to the community at large.

What do we do?

The StLGF supports its members through private social gatherings and educational activities, and by networking with similar organizations throughout North America. The meetings give members the chance to interact with others in a non-judgmental and supportive atmosphere. Activities along with special themes are planned for each regularly scheduled meeting. Additionally,  several parties, banquets, fashion shows, a picnic and a talent show are scheduled during the year.

A bimonthly newsletter called The Gazette keeps members, supporting professionals, and other organizations abreast of our activities. It keeps members informed about transgender-related activities in the community and elsewhere in the country, and helps members identify supportive businesses, clubs, and medical and legal professionals in the St. Louis area. Our members now have the option of receiving The Gazette electronically and enjoying art work; photos and ads in full color The StLGF also maintains a library of books, literature, and video tapes for its members.

We also provide a computer message board for members to exchange ideas, make social contacts between meetings and transmit information about what is going on that pertains to transgender issues.

Administrative and community outreach activities are handled by an elected Board of Directors. This group of volunteers works in the background to assure the integrity and ongoing growth of StLGF and its membership. Moreover, they function in their respective responsibilities at the monthly StLGF meetings. The Board relies heavily on the membership for input, support, creative ideas, artistic input and "just being there"!

Where do we meet?

The StLGF meets once a month on a Saturday evening at a safe and secure location in the St. Louis metropolitan area. After each meeting some members might adjourn to local clubs and restaurants friendly to transgenders. Interested members can also participate in a variety of other extracuricular club-sanctioned outings, as well as trips to regional and national transgender meetings. (No official meetings are held during July or August)

Every possible precaution is taken to insure our members the privacy and security they need. Changing facilities are provided for individuals who are unable to get ready at home.

The StLGF offers:

  • Stimulating conversation and fun activities
  • Peer group support
  • Library resources
  • Changing facilities at meetings
  • A bi-monthly newsletter called The Gazette,
  • Professional and business referrals via member networking
