In Memoriam: Bobbi Jean Hewitt
On December 12, 2002, God called one of our dearest sisters home. Bobbi Jean Hewitt, President of Rho Tau, was an inwardly beautiful person with a ready wit, who always had a kind word for everyone. She had a style of leadership that made everyone, CDs and wives, pleased to be a part of her team.
Bobbi first started crossdressing in the mid-1980s, but stayed in the closet until 1998 when she joined Kappa Beta and joined Tri Ess. In October 1998, she also became a member of Tau Gamma (now STARR). Then in 1999, she joined with Tri Ess sisters in the Richmond Tidewater area to help form Rho Tau. Bobbi truly loved our community, and in addition to being active in several support groups she enjoyed attending Southern Comfort and Holiday En Femme.
Bobbi Jean always was there for other sisters. She maintained a fabulous website, "Bobbi's Transgendered World" (http://www.geocities.com/WestHollywood/Chelsea/1021) which she last updated less than a month before her untimely death. Bobbi's website contains a compendium of useful information for transgendered persons. She also offered advice and support to others in our community via e-mail (or "she-mail", as she preferred to call it.) A visit to her website provides an insight into her gentle and loving soul.
Bobbi Jean's body succumbed to the ravages of cancer just a week after her fifty-sixth birthday, but she will continue to be fondly remembered by all that knew her.
