Hi ! I am Denise Mason, founder of the transgender group 'connecticuT View'. We started in 1984, reorganized in 1994 and in 1998 decided to go electronic. That means that all of our members have computers and can be contacted electronically. In April 2002, unlike other clubs, we decided to not charge DUES, therefore our membership is FREE. All you need to do is e-mail your complete application information. (See, "HOW TO JOIN" page.) Upon joining, you will receive a Password code and a code number which will allow only club members access to our Membership Directory and Monthly Newsletter | ||||||||||
| As of 9/8/06,we have pared down from over 245 members to
28. You might ask why? Well, we decided that to survive and not burn out our officers, everyone will help out in some way that they choose. We would rather have an equal sisterhood for friends, than 250 names we don't know. All members receive free listing in our secure Member Directory, and get a Monthly newsletter. You will also receive all meeting and other notifications. We have Monthly meetings (the third Sat. at 8PM) in a safe location with protected off street parking which is easy to drive to in the New Haven area. WE are the "T" in the GLBT (Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgender) acceptance organization. We don't meet in church basements or hide in motel rooms. We have 5 spacious rooms, a kitchen, pool table area, library, computer room, 53" TV, couches, chairs, plants, 2 spotless bathrooms, etc. Lots of walking area and can accommodate possibly 60 people for one of our lectures. In addition to our monthly meetings which has speakers or some form of entertainment, we also hold annual Halloween and Xmas parties, dinner engagements and other activities. We have a monthly newsletter, and you get all local information plus articles, tips, etc. We are an "open" club which means we discriminate against no one. ANYONE, who is a CD/TV/TS/TG and their wives/friends etc., is invited to join us, be they male/female, CD/TV/TS/TG, gay/bi/straight, black/white, Hispanic/oriental/etc., rich/poor, old/young, Protestant/Jewish/Catholic or whatever ... gee did I cover everything??? Our current membership is mainly male to female TGs from the ages of mid 20's to late 70's. We are a social but also a support group. We have annually held an outreach program for Physicians / Psychotherapists / and those with questions, to our 'TRANSGENDER SEMINAR' in September. We have an Endocrinologist, Psychotherapist and Hypotricologist (hair removal) available. Highlight of our existence includes a Female Impersonator Show, "Boys will be Girls" which we produced in 1987 and raised $3,125.00 for the Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford. We have donated to the 9/11 Relief fund through the Red Cross. We are accepted and invited to attend en femme, plays and shows at Long Wharf Theater, Yale Repertory Theater and Schubert Theaters in New Haven, Palace Theater in Stamford, Goodspeed Opera House in Haddam as well as several other restaurants and places of business. Please check our free pages to see who we are and what we are all about. We hope you can tell that we are a sincere, secure, honest and friendly group. If you care to join us, please check the 'Membership' page and send in the required information in an e-mail. If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact Sharrissa Erin at the above e-mail addresses.
This site has been suffering through several technical difficulties. Also, as of February of 2007, Denise Mason officially retired from the group. From that point on, I was facing a very bleak alternative. 1) Since this is a support group ONLY, NOT A DATING SERVICE, I urge all members that haven't already mentioned their sexual orientation in their profiles, to contact me ASAP! Please tell me who you are & what your sexual orientation is. This should cut down on the number of of violations against the cTView policy. As per the rules & regs that Jeannette & I are trying very hard to enforce at every meeting, no member is allowed to solicit another member for the purpose of sexual favors. IF any member should happen to experience such a request in an E-mail from another member, FORWARD THAT E-MAIL TO ME IMMEDIATELY! I will locate the offending member in the directory & THEY WILL BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY! 2 ) I know & I understand that many members are deeply closeted for various reasons. Originally, it was my belief that if you can't make it to at least one meeting, why even bother to join? But since then, I have had this intuition that my re-enforcement of the "Attendance Requirement" rule that had been started up by Denise, has made me a lot less popular among those members that are closeted. I must say that I am sorry about that. So I am trying to find some sort of common ground here that will be acceptable to everyone. 3 ) This year, the matter of the September Seminar ever occurring is a uncertain prospect due to the continual decrease in attendance over the last three years. If you want the situation to change then help me to do something about it! Step forward & volunteer! You can do one of the following...: Get speakers to commit to keeping a date on their calendars for the September Seminar - OR - Offer to help with the food set up. - OR - Help with the setting up of the Meeting hall such as the moving of the furniture & set up of the chairs for members. Those are just three three items that don't take too much effort on your part to assist in making this years Seminar just as good as it was several years ago. 4 ) I will no longer be sending out the Newsletter Via E-mail. Since I took command of the situation, I now have more than enough on my hands as it stands now. That means that IF you want to read a newsletter, you will have to sign on & go to the newsletters. However...! IF you are one of those that likes receiving the Newsletter Via E-mail, then step forward & volunteer to take over the task of Emailing all members currently listed in the "Members Only" section. If you want more content in the newsletters, send snippets so I can add them into the editing process. 5 ) Summer attendance: If the past three years are any indication of what attendance will be like during the months of June, July & August I just might consider a temporary hiatus for those months. That means that there may not be a meeting for three months due to almost no attendance in the past three years. IF you want Jeannette & I to keep the doors open, please say something about it! But before I make it official, Jeannette & I will set up one more meeting for May 19. IF the attendance has improved, I will follow it up with another meeting in June, so on & so forth until the September Seminar. 6 ) A important note for prospective new members: So! You want to be a member, Huh? Well...? Due to a vast majority of problems with new & old members, I will no longer be accepting applications. However, IF you want to join, just show up a a meeting & let me know. You can get directions from me by clicking on my E-mail link at the top of this page. The other Option, is to join the Yahoo division of the cTView. It's the same thing but just a separate collective inside of Yahoo & it is run by one of the members. |
