TEN THINGS TO DO OR KNOW ABOUT THE TRANSGENDERED

I am the Significant Other of a male to female transsexual
and if I were to list ten things that I think people need to
know that are not educated in this field they would be:

1. Get at least one good book on Transsexuality and read it from cover to cover.

2. Get to know the person again, now that the true person within them has been revealed, her or she may be somewhat different, but in a positive way.

3. Treat her or him as you do any person.

4. If he or she is your significant other be patient as the transition takes place; it will take lots of their energy.

5. Don't ever forget to take care of yourself.

6. Counseling is a definite for all that involved, a must. . .

7. Remember that everyone has a right to an opinion, and whether you want to hear it or not, it is their right, just as change is the right of the person pursuing it.

8. A significant other should not accept society calling her or him gay. Not that gay people are to be shunned, but this is altogether different: it is your partner changing not you.

9. Enjoy the complexity of the gender gifted person.

10. Get in contact with people that have lived what you are now living. I would have never made it without a wonderful person, who was a great support.

The name of the game is Acceptance, Acceptance, Acceptance.

The wonderful person who wrote this did not sign it, However we would like to offer a well-deserved Thank you for being so understanding!
